Whoa, I was watching TV. They had some dude from JD Power and Associates about car ratings.

Worst - Hummer
Second Worst - Landrover
Third Worst - Kia

Don't shoot the messenger. I was surprised, too.

I think Lexus was in first place. One of the guys at work was pleased to leave the news article on my desk, since he believes LR and Hummers are status vehicles and not practical. He drives a Saturn.

There is a little rocky section in a trail to one of my favorite camping/hiking spots in Leadville, Co. Nothing your stock Exploder/Blazer (with running boards) can't cross easily. I helped a guy in a Lexus SUV going up the trail forgo some major body damage w/ my highlift & some muscle after he tried going over a big rock. Got half way up the rock & couldn't go forward or backward bc he would have either ripped off a bumper or a rocker panel. The next day at the bottom of the trail there he was with a bumper hanging half the way off, a dent in the door & an ugly wife w/her arms crossed & dollar signs in her eyes. Nothing aganist Lexus SUV's but a funny story. BTW I went back up the trail & a guy was laughing bc he saw the beat up truck & knew I helped him the day before. He made it up the trail in a Dodge Caravan, no damage.

See that is stupid driving, unless you mean the RX300. The lx470 could get up it, all the guy whould have had to do is lift it up. But I bet is the was minivan/suv the rx300

I know for damn sure that my D1 can ragg the hell out of a Lexus SUV, Mercedes SUV, BMW X5 SUV, or any of these other "Luxury" 4X4's. Sure they might be quicker, but my '98 DI rides smooth as i want it to. Its all about what you prefer.

I personally think JD power is full of shit. They always seem to be biased and their reports seem to be subjective

They look at initial cost and number of problems. When they see a high price vehicle (LR), and then notice all the little quirks they get skeptical. Of course Lexus/Toyota gets first place, everyone knows they last forever. These "ratings" don't mean shit. If you have some soccer mom come into a LR dealer and complain about wind noise, mileage, or other bs stuff then they record it all. This is what the survey was based on. Nobody who buys a rav 4 is going to go into the toyota dealership and complain about anything major like this. When people spend alot on a car, they expect nothing to go wrong. Sorry bout the rambling but its' a bullshit survey.

I drove the RX300 before deciding upon my D1. It was nice with lots of convenience features, but didn't feel like an SUV. Also bought an Integra to use as my commute vehicle (30mpg) and it has more road noise than the Disco! Guess some folks can't translate the sticker mpg into $ until they start filling up the tank every week.

JD Power... Who the hell are they in the first place. Who pays them to do these test. I think of JD Power the way I think of people that rate movies. If it gets 4 stars it is a sleeper that sucks. I made this conclusion after Dances with Wolves. You guys remember that one. Wanted to kill myself about half way through the movie. Since it only lasted like four hours I was nuts by the end of it. OK back on the subject (did't want to go "2005 Disco Post" on you and start talking about watches) JD Power gets paid by somebody, my guess Japan!!!!!

RX300 is more a minivan than a SUV... Don't know why someone would spend the cash on that thing... If the LX470 is anything like the Land Cruiser (which it is), then it should at least have a CDL like the LC. Still I would never trail a expensive beast like that $$$$.

dances with wolves was a very good movie.

sometimes people watch movies for more reasons than just the story or explosions. i like to pay attention to the filming, scenery, acting and sounds.

that's why i loved lord'orings so much that movie had me on sensory overload. or you can go with a usualy suspects type and get all sorts of tib-bits from an editing standpoint.

I knew there would be one of you guys out there!!! I hated that movie. Rob, you were not the only person to watch it and like it. If I recall it was a hit. It's just that my A.D.D. had kicked in and well.....4 freaking hours with Costner was all any human can stand. So Rob, what kind of watch do you own?

bill, i have a threory that any movie over two hours long * is so expensive to make that it must be good. the only time i found an error in this was "a thin red line" which i hated. every minute the clock ticked by, i didnt like the direction, acting and it looked fake (shotty cinamatography).

the only difference here is Dances with Wolves was good and A Thin Red Line wasn't :-)

i have my Casio Alti-thermo aka the "dick tracy watch" by my friends. i'm actually so nerdy with this watch that i regularly use the features!

karen, i thought you were more the whistlers mother type, didn't know you were into the amish.

Justin, the LX470 does have a CDL. I am trying to convince my father to take his out the next time i go wheeling, and i think he might. It would be mighty interesting!

Bill-

It's from the late '80's I think. Set in '71 or '72 some college grads in Texas go on a road trip. Also has Jud Nelson as an ROTC nerd going to Vietnam. Kind of a "coming of age" film with some very funny parts. I think it may have been more of an independent film than major film prod. company but I could be wrong. I really enjoyed it. The only film with Costner I would watch more than once.

You will find it at your video rental store.
