I have 2002 Disco with 29 k miles, recently I took it to the dealer for a waranty issue.
After a argument with LR, they told me I need 30k mile service, how much $585. After I was revived I asked what it details, they said plugs, wires transmmission filter kit and air filter. I can understand transmmision filter and air filter, but plugs at 30k miles are they shitin me.
My question is simple should I change plugs at 30k or 60k like book says.

Check the service intervals in your owner's manual.
I think LR recommends replacing brake fluid; flush/fill p. test radiator; drain/fill engine oil, diffs, t-case, transmission; air filter, but not sure about plugs and wires though.
Actually, I just dropped mine off at Denver LR South this AM for the 30k service. Before I bought it, I looked at their posted prices for each service interval, so I knew this was coming.
My experience with newer cars under warranty has been you HAVE to keep the service intervals up to date, especially if you have any warranty issues at some point.
I think that as long as you can document that the service was performed, it doesn't have to be done by the dealer, but my experience with the dealer's service department so far has been postive (I know, that's hard to believe) and since I'd already done some of the smaller stuff (air filter, supplied own oil - Mobil 1) they gave me credit for that. All told it should run around $450. I know that's a lot, but to me the leverage over a warranty issue is worth it, considering how expensive some repairs can run. Plus, they gave me Freelander to drive, and I live around 70 miles away - it's not huge money, but it's a free car for two days and probably 200+ miles. And they hand wash the exterior and clean the interior of mine before I get it back. Again, it's not huge money, but worth a little. The Freelander and hand wash are around $100 of value to me, the service nets to $350. What a deal:-)
