I need to replace my thermostat. Would replacing it with one set for a higher temp range help burn of some of the carbon that can build up? Maybe help keep the engine clean?

Thanks in advance!
Mike

Mike, you're the first post I've seen that asked about running a Disco hotter (ha, ha)! That wouldn't be a good thing if yours is as old as my 95 120kmiles. I'm praying to make one more summer in the SE US without the radiator/fan clutch project.

I know you can't just take out the tstat as the emission controls are preset to look for certain temp parameters but an open tstat can't be flowing more than 50% by volume of an open passage.

Anyone ever heard of a higher flow rate tstat?

higher flow dose not mean cooler running

the flow can then move too fast not giving the fluid enough time to pickup heat in the engine and release it at the radiator.

temp is a key factor in the function of the emmissions and fuel injection system.

unless you are completely up to speed on all factors involved with the engine, changing to a different temp thermostat is just a hit or miss stab in the dark that likely will give no benifits.
