I have a 96 disco and it did not come with the factory cd changer, is it prewired for one or would I have to run cables and install it myself? thanks

Mark,

Your truck is prewired for a factory CD changer, you should have a wire with a flat 90-degree plug and a smaller purple wire with a white plug under your front seat.

In my 94 and 95 Discos the wiring is under the driver's seat, but I think I remember someone saying the wiring is under the passenger's seat on 96 and up...

Buy a used one from someone on the board, there are usually a few floating around. I bought two here and they both work great...

Good luck,
Chuckster

Ya it's on passenger side and check ebay too if you can't find one here. I see quite a few of them on there.

Will any LR cd changer work? or will I have to get one specifically made for the discovery?

Not all LR cd changers will work. You need the one which is made by Pioneer. Make sure that on the back of it, it has part number CDX-M65zrv. This unit came on Discoveries from 96 - 98, possibly the 99 D1's, but I'm not positive. The brackets that it bolts to should also be present under your passenger seat. At least they were on my '97. Good luck. Very easy install. I ended up getting one for $154 on ebay and it is like new. Some go for more however. There are a couple on there now.
