I tried an archive search for battery replacement or weak alternator with no success. These are the two themes I am thinking are causing hard starting on my DII. My LR has only 25k miles on it. I am wondering if I have a weak alternator (not recharging), but then I would have had a dead battery after a short time right? The next thought was replacing the battery (with an Optima maybe!), but I do not want to screw up the electrics by doing something on my own when the truck is still under warranty (I suppose I should let the dealer service guys mess with it...is there a chance they would balk at letting me use a battery of my choice in the replacement? suggestions or previous experience would be appreciated. If it's under warranty I'd take it in. As far as hard starting is concerned can you elaborate? Does it turn over? Or is it just dead? A bad battery might not hold a charge and a bad alternator wouldn't charge your battery. I'd take it to the dealer if its close. Just ask if you can get a credit for the cost of the battery and supply your own Optima, they shouldn't have a problem with that. |

Good advice. When I said hard starting, I meant that it usually takes 3 turn-overs and it then starts. It just doesn't sound healthy. I will just resort to the simple option for now and get it over to the dealer. Thanks again, Brad |
