i've been having slight overheating problems over the last couple of weeks. on days over 90 degrees when i try to run the air conditioner or just park and idle, my '94 starts overheating. i flushed the radiator and changed the thermostat to no avail. i've gotten 2 schools of thought regarding the radiator (replace) and the fan clutch (ditto). the fan clutch prognosis came from a reputable mechanic and sounds logical, and certainly cheaper. since i know jack about either, i need some help here. how do i test or diagnose the fan clutch? what's the complexity/cost in replacing it? what are the signs of a bad radiator, other than overheating? it seemed clean and moved water well with no leaking when i flushed it. there are no leaks anywhere. help! this could get critical once that texas heat starts hitting regularly. |

Kevin: I vote for radiator replacement. If the fan moves freely when cold and not so freely when hot, it is working. But, I suspect it is your radiator. Recoring was more than a new one locally for me, but you may find this to be different for you. Been there done it. Peace, Paul |

Paul your correct new factory units are cheaper then a recore here in Australia as well, but you don't buy at an LR dealer. It might be worth pulling the tanks of for a proper clean if the core looks ok. |
