I think my stalling problem is related to heat, and I have read that early disco models had amplifier modules that can become very sensitive to heat. Before I replace it, or even spend a ton of money getting the relocation kit, is there any way to test to make sure it is bad? I was thinking I would drive it on a hot afternoon until it conked out, then spray the amplifier module with compressed air (the cold stuff, like a keyboard dusting spray) and see if it cranked..any other ideas? |

www.xkslandrover.com has the amplifier on sale for $53 dolla could be the fuel temperature sender or coolant temp sender.

Mark: There is a fairly simple resistance test that is outlined in the electronic troubleshooting manual. You can remove the amplifier, heat it up with a hair dryer and monitor the changes as the temp increases. If you're in the US, it is unlikely that this is the problem as your NAS Disco most likely has the amplifier mounted on the radiator core support. I personally have not seen a distributor mounted amplifier post-93 MY. You might look at the connectors to the coil for corrosion. Also, the base of the amplifier must be well grounded, and the bolts tightened to the specified torque as overtightening can affect operation. Peace, Paul |

Thanks for the information. Paul, if it were mounted on the radiator support, where would it be in relation to the coil? My distributor has a module attached to the side that faces the engine, and it has an electronic connector on top..I was under the impression that this was the module. I can get you a pic if that would help. Thanks |

Wow, yours has the amplifier on the distributor... Usually, NAS Discos have it mounted adjacent to and on the same bracket as the coil. Yours has to be a '94 Model Year if the amplifier is on the distributor, I stand corrected. |

It is a manual transmission, it that would make any difference in why it has the module on the distributor. I am assuming that if I take the module off, check the resistance, then heat it up with a hair dryer, any change would indicate a bad module? |

Mark: I think you'd want to reference the ETM before blindly hooking your ohmmeter to the module. Also, the ETM gives acceptable resistances for the various circuit paths. Peace, Paul |

I don't have access to an ETM. Has anyone here ever done this before, and perhaps help me out? |

Anyone have any luck finding the testing procedures? |

Mark if you have a cable modem you can download the workshop manuals for the Disco I from my site. www.rykos.net/workshop.zip www.rykos.net/elec.zip I'll leave those up for a few more days before I delete for space. You need both. |
