ok,

I CANNOT get at the driverside , and probably pass side as well, bell housing bolts..

Paul Schram had suggested I drop the transmission, but that isnt really a possibility. I am keeping the same transmission for this engine, and dropping it down will require removing transmission mounts, and removal of crossmember both of which will be alot of work I dont really want to do.

I cant seem to get a box end wrench on it, nor a socket as the lip of each doesnt seem to want to fit in between the bellhousing and the bolt. I can get an open wrench on it, but because of the angle of the bolt, when the wrench seats firmly, it only leaves about an inch to move it before hitting the bulkhead and that inch isnt enough room to break the bolt loose.

Right now the engine is completely loose and off its mounts. I have it sitting on a floor jack, and it has been lowered to the point where it is already sitting on the crossmember now. This improved access somewhat, but still not enough. I tried to see about getting a socket on it from underneath and behind, but I just dont see how, there is too much in the way.

I would appreciate any of you experts out there giving me some ideas on this. The only thing still connected is these two bolts, and the flywheel.

Thanks

Richard:
We just used a long extension, about 2 1/2 feet, and came in from the top, standard air wrench socket, the kind that has the "ujoint" like action. Didn't have to mess with the engine at all.

gah, im a dumbass...

Thanks michael that worked.. But what made the difference was that I was using a 14mm instead of 9/16. The 14mm fit, but not securely enough to get a hold of the bolt.. the 9/16 fit much better and it worked instantly.

thanks

"It you get a few extentions together preferablly ones with a "wobble" end it will make getting the bolts in the bellhousing much easier to get to.

Ron"

There was a reason I posted this :-)

Good to hear you are getting on well with it.

Ron
