I have heard there is a dashboard repair kit available to fix the problem of the dash lifting due to sun etc.. in Disco 1. Does anybody know if this is right ?? Is this a common problem ? We have a 95 and a 97 Disco and the dash on 95 has lifted extremely badly....looks very ordinary. Any suggestions on the best way to repair this ?? Thanks.

The factory didn't use enough glue under there, is what happened... more common on '94 - '96 Discos, it seems....

To do it RIGHT, pull the windshield (for better access), heat the plastic to soften the curl out, and reglue it down, using sizeable weights to hold into place. Doesn't sound like a lot of fun, but, it'd be done right.

There are strips that can be screwed into place to hold the end of the dash down... You can see it here: http://www.roverconnection.com/Disco%20Acc%20Pix/rcdsh.htm , but I would suggest calling Nathan at http://www.discountrovers.com/ to purchase instead.

Regarding the "screw-in" dash fix, do you have to remove the windshield to install these? Thanks.

You don't have to remove the windshield to install the screw-in fix-kit. However, it's supposedly a bugger to get the screws in well, unless you have an angle-headed screwdriver.

As an alternative to Leslie's glue, the dealer parts guy that sold me the trim kit told me to first use drywall screws to hold the bulges down, then use the trim to cover up the drywall screws. Said there was nothing under there to worry about screwing into. So that's what I did, and it worked fine. Another way to get holes in the dash for the trim screws at the far right and left where there is no room for a right-angle drill: heat the appropriate size nail (held in vice grips) red hot with a propane torch and melt the hole.
