2000 Disco - My wife recently had the ABS, Traction Control, and Hill Descent lights come on and give the "chime". Took it to the Willow Grove dealer(terrible service at the moment - another story) and they said it needed a "software upgrade". Why?? Automotive software shouldn't tell you when it needs upgrading!!!

1 week later and the lights come on again, but are off at the next drive.

Has anyone experienced this?? They don't seem to have any clue at the dealer.

Thanks!
Jason.

Next they will tell you you need ABS sensors at $720.00 a piece...oh....just out of warranty....too bad...my 99 had the same BS...the 2nd sensor I said NO...and the light went out and hasn't been on for the last 6 months....go figure. I think the lights are a revenue raiser....kinda like speeding tickets in the country!

there was an upgrade a few years ago for SLABS (self leveling anti-lock brake) computers (or software). i have an 01, so this kinda pre-dates me...but if you never had one done, or bought used, i would see if it had been done. also, i have read that it could be a wheel sensor as peter points out. it needed an "upgrade" not so much that it was "better," but that it fixed some kind of fault in the system. upgrade is less a correct term than "fix."

good luck.

So they'll give free software "upgrades" while under warranty to cover a bad wheel sensor, then when it's out of warranty it'll be a bad sensor and we'll get charged for it all.

We went through the wheel sensor crap with our '96.

I still have to talk to them about this software. My wife dealt with them, but I wasn't there to question it.

Jason.

My 99 D2, had those lights same lights go on and off intermitantly and was not trowing any codes, as it might with a bad ABS sensor. My truck already had the SLAB's recall. After doing this many times, and consulting with LR Technical servies, they eventually replaced the SLAB's computer again. This was all done under warranty, Thank God. It did cure the problem.
