Could I have a hot start problem. I have no problems when I first start it. But when it heats up and I turn it off it will not start back up until it cools back down. Are there any sensors that I can replace and where are they located. Right now its in the shop and the guy there thinks it something with the ignition but not sure.

Does it turn over the same hot as cold? Same cranking speed? Or, does it crank but not fire?

OK, it's not ignition timing too far advanced.

I'll have to think about this one for awhile...

Marlin, I'm uploading the portion of the RAVE cd that contains the workshop manual for the 95 disco. It's still 27 megs, but it has everything you need to see it.

www.rykos.net/workshop.zip

Just double click on the rave icon and it'll fire up, select Discovery I then workshop manual.

Should finish uploading around 4:40 central time.

Hope it helps,
Jared

Not trying to hijack your thread, but I might have the same hot/warm starting problem. Thought it was perhaps fouled plugs (not sure of service by previous owner except for records on file at local LR dealer), so I swapped the plugs and the starting problem went away for a week. Then the starting problem came back with a vengence by refusing to start when the engine was warm, so I ended up taking it to the dealer. They said it was a bad fuel pump and replaced it.

Now (couple months later) I still have intermittant starting problems, but no failure to start. I find that to start the engine, it sometimes requires several turns of the key and an accelerator pushed 1/2 way down to start. My Discovery is a '97 with barely 40k miles.

Doesn't sound like they cured the entire problem. It had a major service (tune up?) at 31k miles and I've owned it since 38k miles.

Any thoughts on the above?

Once you get that manual check into the ETCS engine coolent temperature sensor, or the fuel rail temp sensor. The etcs is by the h2o pump in the block and the fuel temp is on the driver side of the engine in the front third of the fuel rail. Someone who serviced my 95 swapped the plugs by accident when they cleaned my injectors. Did just what happened to yours, ran cold and fine hot, shut the truck off and it wouldn't start, turned over, but no start. Swapped the those sensor plugs, bam it started and ran like a charm. It did throw a code to the obd reader under the seat. If those sensors are bad you should have a code too.

To both hot run problems, my 95 had a problem running hot, it would stall once at operating temp. I had a bad fuel pump caused by crap build up in the gas tank. It clogged my fuel pump and cause it to fail, clogged fuel lines and injectors. Bench cleaned injectors, flushed fuel lines and gas tank, new fuel pump and filter after all that the truck ran fine again.

Drew- check your fuel filter for crap, if you pulled mine off you could get fine particles from the gas draining out of the filter. Block the lines to and from the filter, loosen filter, pour gas from filter into a clean jar and check for crap. I was told its common for plastic tanked disco's like ours to get build up in the gas tank if they aren't driven much so that the gas is exchanged alot in the tank. You might have clogged or leaking injectors from bad gas.

The electrical guide should be up shortly, uploading it now. There is 1 pdf file in there, that needs to be unzipped and placed in the ./pdf/lj/ folder, then you can access it just like you do the workshop manual from the RAVE icon.

Hope this helps.

Get it at: www.rykos.net/elec.zip
