My wife is not to happy, but I just bought my first Disco off of E-bay last night. Now I get to drive up on Sat. to pick it up. It looks good in the pics, and the service dept doesn't show any issues. I hope that I can just afford insurance on it and my old car too. (insurance in WV in outragous).

I hope that I do not regret my new purchase with issues right away. I know that I have just purchased a new family member. I just hope that the new member of my family doesn't want to go to college :-) or get sick to soon.

Any one in WV want to help me learn how to go off road with my new toy?

Joey:

Well all right then! Post some pictures of that bad boy when you get a chance. I hear there are some nice spots in WV for wheeling. You're gonna be hooked in no time - just wait and see.

How was eBay for buying a rig? I see some crazy sons on that site that are selling anything they can make a buck on.

Take care and I'm plenty happy for you.

Congrats! If the auction is not that old, post the ebay link. Let us take a look. Generally insurance on Discos isn't bad since most are driven by soccer moms.

Wooooeeee! That's a nice one. Wood grain and fancy interior all for $9K - damn that's a deal. Mileage isn't bad either.

Heck, I can't tell a new Discovery from the older ones (unless we're talking '94 & '95 with them old style wheels). So, you got a Disco that looks close to all the other new ones for les than 10.

Ya done good Joey - ya done real good! Seriously.

Yeah, looks nice. I have jump seats in my D2. Don't use them all the time, but a great feature. Let her drive it, maybe she won't be too mad.

Good Luck,
-John

i hope you realize it really doesnt have "locking differentials"

it has a center locking diff if it has the others they are after market and that just doesnt fit the picture.

I still love that they put down drink holders as a feature.. understand this Joey about those nice drink holders, get used to a can or a small drink cause nothing else fits in them :-) You are gonna have a lot of fun. Soon you will have a marked driveway like the rest of us.

If you need any pages of the service manual just give me a shout.

Congrats

Very nice buy! I love the color, I saw a red one the other day. Mine is a 99 D1 that is black, I thought about getting it painted. I bet there a ton of places to go off roading in WV. You could always go to The Greenbrier, they have a Land Rover Driving School there. As for the wife, let her drive, my wife loves driving mine, but she does hate parking it. Congrats again and welcome to the club.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their advise on my Cupholders. (In the Tech section) I just picked up my new '97 Disco on Saturday. First let me say that I will be spending the extra money on the Disco Cup holders (That is unless I get an email back about someone selling me their extra one). Second, after driving 5 hours to pick it up I love it, I can't believe I waited this long to get one, but am happy that I did. Driving it home on the interstate, I averaged 20 mpg and it rode wonderfully. The only issues that I could find with it is it needs a new air filter (very dirty), a new serpentine belt and that is it. I did notice a little surface rust near the top curved windows in the back (any ideas how to fix this?). My wife even liked the way it drove and rides.

Now I just can't wait to get it dirty :-) I am sure that I will be posting a lot of questions in the future as well as learning enought to answer a few if all goes well. First this first though, I have to get a filter and a belt.

I'd say you got a pretty fair price on the disco but get ready for a bit of price shock on the belt :-). Drop Nathan a line though (www.discountrovers.com) he has good prices on OEM stuff. Now start reading through the archives, all sorts of stuff there that should keep a new disco owner busy for a at least a few weeks.

Nathan has serpentine belts for $24.95--just ordered one two weeks ago. Congrats--it looks great.
