Just bought a '97 on Ebay, I have heard and read all the stuff about exhaust manfold issues (cracking and getting red hot).

Is their an aftermarket manfold out there that will help with this issue, or is this something that I will just learn to get welded?

If an aftermarket is available, who makes and how much?

Thanks,

Joey

Lemme get this straight, you just bought a Disco and the first thing you're worried about is a manifold cracking?

Put the pipe down and carefully walk away.

Trust me, there are far more common and annoying things to have break on these trucks than an exhaust manifold (cheering heard in background).

Just wait awhile, your power steering will soon begin to leak. If it isn't, check to make sure there is fluid in it.

Welcome to the fraternity, just bustin' your balls. Feel free to flame me, I can take it:-), stick around and when something happens to your truck, we'll help you get it goin' again.

Have you had a chance to get it muddy yet? If not, not wheelin' Discos is guaranteed to attract the Lucas god's revenge.

Peace,
Paul

I would not flame you for your comments. It just seems like every Used Disco that I have looked at seem to have the exhaust issue.

As far a wheelin' tell me who to contact in WV and I would be glad to go. I pick the disco up on Sat. if all goes well.

Joey:
I find that many of the Rovers brought to me to work on are MISSING manifold to y-pipe bolts. The last three trucks have been missing at least one, if not more. I wonder if this couldn't have been part of the problem. The Rangie in the shop now, has a broken stud and a broken weld at the y-pipe.

Wheelin' in WV-man, you got it made! Buy a Gazetteer and look for the light red lines, those are usually good for a few gasps when you find out they aren't much more than trails. Where are you in WV? I got my Series truck from near Beckley/Thurmond.

Peace,
Paul

I am located in Spencer (NE of Charleston). I can be in Charleston in about a hour. Of course for most of the month of June I will be in Beckley for work.

I found most of the bolts on both exhaust loose....I tightened them up and stopped just about all the noise, I have yet to check the bolts on the manifold the y pipes yet, I will look at that tomorrow though.

You just survived the hazing. Your truck was just trying to see if you were worthy of owning a Rover.

You passed.

As far as the manifolds go, I would say that the main problem is the exhaust leaking from bad gaskets. Put some new ones in there as soon as you get the truck, and pray you don't have problems with them again. I think that overheating manifolds are a problem caused by clogged cats/mufflers, and shouldn't normally be a problem.
