Yup, beat to death. The consensus, it most likely can be done. It would be very expensive and what's the point. If you insist, you can get them at Northwest parts. Do a google search.

Sorry, we were posting at the same time. I love my D2. No big problems. I did have an issue with the SLAB's computer that controls the ABS,etc. I had it repaired under warranty. Try to find a lease turn it that still have some warranty left if you need to sort out any issues. Good luck, they are great trucks. This is my second LR, the first was a 88 Range Rover. I've been hooked for some time. Ask lots of questions here before you buy. This site is a wealth of Land Rover knowledge.

-John

PS - Don't worry about the lights, If you want them, buy a 2003!

Thomas- if you're looking for a D1- the later the year the better(earlier discos had more valve issues and many other problems),look for rust, service history- If you are going to take it off road alot- probably better with a D1. For a D2, lr cleared up many problems, it all depends on what options you want.

Dan- thanks for the advice... I'm definetly thinking of a D2.. Even though the approach angles are worse, the track is wider on a D2 and I like the suspension improvements made between the models. The engine though is what I'm curious most about. I have experience with disco 1's and the new 03's but not with the 99-2002's. I a little worried they are still as sluggish as the early models with only an increase from 182 to 188 hp. Any thoughts..? I at least want to pass a car on the highway if ever necessary. The 03's are pretty sweet, let me tell you.

They are not rockets, I didn't buy mine to go fast! Here's another good site for info specifically on the D2:

http://www.disco2.com/

I did a good bit a reasearch on that site and dweb before I bought my 99D2.

If you want a Disco with decent pickup and speed (comparitively speaking), then get a 2003, other wise all previous Discos are generally pretty sluggish. They're not bad if you give yourself a bit of a run. Just plan your passing ahead of time or get used to driving slower than before.

I wouldn't bother with the 03 headlights on older Disco's. Just means that much more cash you have to shell out when they break and really all for cosmetic reasons.

if you want to take it on actual off road adventures, anything after mid-2001 will not be able to lock the center diff (without some advanced mods). you will have ETC on the later models, but most will tell you ETC *and* CDL is what it is all about...

if you want to start another post flame-a-thon, (besides will '03 lights fit on an XXXX), post saying ETC is as good as CDL...;)

hang around and read...this is a pretty good site.

mike

ps: don't let carter see your headlights post. please don't let carter see the post. word to the wise...;)

one more tidbit...under the resources section and then verdors, there is a wealth of links to suppliers...and under the tech section exists a nice collection of how-to's for many homebrew mods and installs for other purchased items. expedition exchange's website has a pretty good tech section too...

"I at least want to pass a car on the highway if ever necessary"

...Going downhill, you can.

Offroad you'll be waiting for the others to catch up, if they can:-)
