I think my heating core has gone bad. Does anyone out there have a diagram of the dash area of a 95 Disco that they could e-mail me? Or tell me the procedure for getting to it.

Why do you think your heater core has gone out?

Heater cores fail in two common modes, leaks and clogs.

I am getting radiator fluids on the passenger side floor and vapors are coming out of my vents.

Help!

Yup, you got a busted heater core. Sorry for your luck. The repair requires pretty much complete disassembly of the dash-or so I'm told. You're gonna want a workshop manual for this one, otherwise, you'll never find that goofy bolt that is behind something you'd never think to look for.

Paul is right. And, from experience, that goofy bolt is the one sitting behind the heater fan directly behind and to the right of the heater core. It holds a bracket that holds the two metal pipes that feed the heater core to the firewall.

There was Cussfest in my truck until I removed the fan and saw the bracket. Without removing the bracket, allowing the pipes to wiggle around a little bit, you will most likely never get the pipes to meet enough to put those stupid little clamps back on.

I'm getting pissed just remembering it.

While the workshop manual is clearly necessary, it is equally frustrating as LR runs you around the barn to do anything. Turn to this page for this, then turn back, oops, forgot, you need to turn to this section for this, and that section for this other thing, and on and on and on.

But, if you're patient, it can be a lifesaver.

I will probably never need to replace my heater core. After replacing three of them on my Blazer, I bought a spare heater core and air conditioning assembly on eBay shortly after buying the truck! Even Lucas is afraid of Mojo like that!

Would a Hayes manual be of any use in this case or will I need one of those hundred dollar shop manuals?

Does the entire dash assembly have to be removed to replace the core?

my heater core went on our 97 disco..but i figure if i get cold..ill get a jacket..we got quoted $1500AUD to gave it replaced..includin fitting

Yup, dash has to come out, or at least up enough for you to get to the heater core. The center console, where the gearshifts are, has to come out first. Then, the glovebox, radio, heat/AC controls, instrument cluster, about 50 screws bolting the dash to various parts of the frame.

I did it without a manual, but I'm mechanically inclined. Once you take out the center console, you can see the heater core at the bottom of the heater assembly from the passenger floorboard, you'll see the end, about 6" tall 3"wide with 2 tubes sticking out of it heading toward the firewall. Then you'll be able to see all the stuff in your way preventing you from getting it out.
