Looking for opinions on the following 4 channel car audio amps:
MA AUDIO 800 Watts p/n: HK-597(full Mosfet)
MA AUDIO 800 watts p/n: M483i(partial mosfet or maybe none)
ULTRA LINEAR 800 watts p/n: UL4475 (full Mosfet)
SONY XPLOD (can't remember how many watts)
The amp will be used to power the following JBL speakers:
1 pair of tweets -front
1 pair of 4" coax speakers (mids)- front
1 pair of 5.25" coax speakers (low?) front, bottom of doors. Maybe in parallel with rear speakers.
1 pair of 6.5" coax speakers (low) - rear roof

The sub is powered by its own amp.

Specs on the MA Audio: http://mainstreet-audio.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=1&Produ ct_Code=M483I&Affiliate=123

Specs on the Ultra Linear: http://www.adleraudio.com/detail.asp?mdl=UL4475

Thanks for any input on the amps. Pros/cons/warranty/distortion/ etc.

Well,

I wouldn't describe myself as an "audiophile", but most folks I've talked wth have suggested to stay away from the Sony xplod stuff, supposedly not their best product.....

FWIW....

Either the HK597 or Ultra UL4475 will do the job. If you can afford it, Boston speakers are the way to go.
when you say the sub is powered by its own amp, what is the sub you are referring to and what size is it, and you haven't mentioned installing woofers.
What sort of head unit do you have?

Well I tend to lean towards MA, check out my car's page if you want a look. Internally both MA amps should be the same just one is flashier than the other... I'd go MA, I've heard good things about the ultra linear but yes please DO stay away from Sony unless you're on a tight budget

I worked in a stereo shop for a while, and I'll tell you, I loved my A/D/S stuff. I put two free air 8" in my 325i deck, and they were great. Happen to have them if anybody is interested?

But I also put a 6.5" Boston Acoustic set in a friends ride. Different sound.

Best bet is to hear them honestly. I know most stores don't have great setups but you can get an idea of what is a smoother more mellow speaker versus a harsh tinny sound. Some people just prefer one over the other.

Tinny sound = LR factory set up. I can't see how anyone can prefer this to any other aftermarket sound systems.

No what I'm saying is that some people prefer more of a tinny sound even from aftermarket speakers. Take Infinity tweeters for example, or JBL tweeters.

Thanks for all the ideas guys, keep them coming. I'll stay away from the Sony unit!

More info: Head unit is a Sony 35wx4
CD changer: CDX757MX (mp3/cdr/cdw/etc)
Subwoofer: Basslink by Infinity, don't remember much of its specs but you can find it on the web.

Price wise the M483i and the Linear is the same so that won't be an issue. I have never heard of the Linear amp so any thoughts on this particular amp is encouraged. I like the physical case of the linear since it's not very flashy and looks simply made.

I've had a Sony Head unit for almost 5 years now. It's a Mobile ES model and it's made it's way from a Wrangler, to a 325i, now to a Wolfsburg. Keeps on going and never had a problem once..

Ali. If you are happy with your choice of amps go with it, as long as it can provide you with the power you wish to run, the system you want looks OK to me, however, if you are wanting to "blow your socks off", it back to the drawing board.
