Hi Folks, i need some help...

I have a 1995 tdi, the speedo stopped working ( after going through fits of the needle bouncing around the speedo for about 100miles)
Anyway, i spoke to my local dealer, who said it would be the transducer on the transfer box... so i ordered the part, at £23 only to find out that the part had been superceded with a new part number and now the unit costs £36+vat
Anyhow, i replaced the transducer, and it still doesn't work..., so it could be the wiring or the speedo head or maybe the ecu, has anyone experienced this, and knows what to check for.. does anyone know the voltages that should be at the sensor and at the speedo head whilst the car isnt moving, and what they should be at the speedo head whilst the car is moving.. HELP PLEASE.

Hi Tim
The drive to the speedo is mechanical, and is driven off the side of the transfer box.
I would start looking at the cable and especially where it meets the speedo head.
How easy was it to change the speedo drive?, keep meaning to do this on mine, after fitting bigger tyres.
Where are you Tim?
I am in Bedford.
Best of luck

My 300 Tdi did the same thing when I got it a yr ago, played up bad for a week or 3, then stopped. Waited a day and it worked again, and hasn't missed a beat since.

BTW my tacho jumps wildly since then from time to time, and there is nothing wrong with the alternator :-/

(I know I didn't help at all, sorry..)

the tacho cable at the alternator gets loose, mine had some work on it and they put the connector on backwards so it jumped like yours... jumping is just loose cable, if its dead.. be worried...
