Broke my exhaust flange and catalytic converter on my 91 classic while in Moab last month. Dealership wants $1,280.00 (plus tax) to fix it. I'm thinking that now may be a good time to upgrade to a high performance converter. I have already upgraded my exhaust system with a Magnaflow. Does anyone have a recommendation on a good high performance converter? What results can I expect?

Thanks,

Cneal.

Most of those hi-flow cats can be used on any type of car or truck. Stop by one of those hot rod shops or any parts place where the guy behind the counter isn't a goober. You'll need to provice the dimentions of your old cats. I haven't put them on my Rover yet but my dad puts them on all his cars. He said it makes a big difference. He just out one on a Cadilac last week. The cat cost him $130 before installation.

Just came back from a custom exhaust shop where I started out wanting to replace from the Y pipe back with some aluminized 2.5" pipe, a bigger stainless mufler, and go straight to the back with the rest of it. Removed the Cats just to look and they were rotten, So we started the Pipe from the O2 sensors back, re made the Y pipe, new flange, a Huge KN muffler with 3" in and out flanges, both cut, and the pipes enlarged to fit. and the rest of the Pipe, straight out the back. Result, Beautiful acceleration, But man it's loud. You would think it's a diesel when standing outside. During idle, it's not too loud, but when I crank it up, you really think it's some kind of Dually F350 Super Duty. I think I may quiet it down by installing a 12" small diameter muffler behind the wheel well just before the tip.
But Boy does it flow!. Whole job installed with parts $400. Can't complain. and Here in Florida, there are NO emmisions. They tried to start it, it lasted for a few years and they had to shut it all down and sell the buildings. Lucky for those Street Dragsters that run the open pipes on their Saturday night doorslammers.

OK. Went down to the local muffler shop. They said that they could get an after-market cat and install it for about $850.00. I still think that's high. Wish that I could find a good custom shop here in Salt Lake. I'm still looking.

Charles, I'm almost sure that Summit Racing has those Accel Catalitics for like $120 bucks.!
Look around for a speed shop, Or if you pull up next to a tricked out Mustang or Muscle car, they'll point you in the right direction. $850 that's crazy!Basically look for a speed shop, not a franchise, something small under racing in the yellow pages, etc.. And visit them, they can't tell you what they can do over the phone in most cases.
Good Luck

My hi-flo cat cost me $59.95 with a $40 install. Whoever quoted you $850 was on drugs.

Just got back from a muffler shop that I found in Salt Lake. Got a high flow cat with engine flange installed for $270.00. A hell of alot better than the $1,300 at the Land Rover dealer and the $850.00 that the other bozo wanted to charge me. Thanks for the input guys.
