My wife has been after me to sell my disco... I drive 35-miles to work everyday, making gas expensive. Now I really don't want to sell my truck. But, there is a guy coming to look at it today.

I'm curious on everyone's thoughts... It's a 95 with all the bells from the factory, plus: ARB-Lockers front & rear, ARB bumper, X9 winch, Old Man Emu Susp, Full Safari Rack, Seat covers, Factor 6-disc, jump-seats, Hella lights, CB radio, running well and in good shape. Needs tires.

Now that you know the background I listed it at 11,500. I told my wife that I wouldn't take a penny less. If this guy will pay full price is it worth selling? When my commute changes could I get into a comparable Rover for less?

Any feedback would be helpful

Thanks.

Only thing I've noticed since I'm also looking for a disco is that the racks and extras don't seem to command much more on the lots. People probably make out better selling extras places like here seperately. Not sure though...Just something I've noticed (A dealer was willing to pull a brush guard and tail light protectors from another truck at no cost if I took the other one)

I would say, take out the offroad goodies if possible. Either sell them separate or keep them until you get another Disco. $11,500 is pretty high for a 95 and it's been a proven fact that upgrades don't mean shit when selling. 35 miles/day ain't that bad. If I were you, convince the wife to get you a snorkel so you can get better mileage (wink, wink!)

I should clarify I drive 35-miles each way 70-round trip.

I know I would have better luck selling the truck and the extras separately. But if this guy will buy the truck as is for 11,500 is that a good deal. Could I turn around in a year and buy something comparable for the same or less money?

Oh yeah... a clean '95 can be had for $8k (you just don't have to tell him that), that's what we paid for the wife's....

I would consider pulling off the goodies and selling it for a bit less, maybe agree to knock a couple of thousand off.... get a commuter to go to work, then later pick up a cheaper Disco to be a field truck....

Or, keep that one and put up w/ the mileage... :-)

Chad:
What kind of mileage does your truck have? Very critical when trying to value a vehicle.

I also paid $11,500 for mine almost three years ago, it now has 170K on it. I doubt I could get the same amount for it now. I drive 100 miles each day.

Peace,
Paul

Usually people under estimate the value of all those extras so you really don't get much money for them. I would sell as many parts seperatly or sell them to the buyer of your truck.

Also, if you want to make a case to your wife about keeping it. Show her how much it will cost for taxes, title, etc. for a new car and then show her how many months it would take for you to posibly break. - Just a thought.

Have you thought about keeping the Rover and losing the wife?

buy a $500 honda civic or old corrola to commute in and keep the disco...the gas savings in a year will pay for the commuter and the added insurance.

or take erics advice

Also, you may pick up some mileage with some new tires if it needs them now. A good set of AT's may help. Sorry Chad, just pulling for you so you'll keep the disco.

Chad, If you know how it's been maintained, it runs good without serious mechanical issues, you're better off keeping it.
With all of those upgrades, you're losing money because you'll put those very same things on the next one (at more expense) and the time you've put into doing the upgrades plus you'll just end up with a car which you probably won't like driving. On top of that, buying used is always a gamble. You might end up buying someone elses headache!
If you have to sell it, hold out for a WRX!

Thanks for the encouragement. The person that was the most serious about the truck has stopped calling all of a sudden. So, I think I'm safe.

Thanks again.
