yup or unless you have a mean car audio setup... which then it could also be your rca's are too close to the power wire...or they cross over each other a lot, I had to do a lot of rewiring for this.. jeje sucked, I'm still not done

If the frequency changes with RPM, this can be caused by a poor connection in the high tension leads. The high voltage arc creates RF interferance.

Bruce.

Have the same problem, it's a recurring one for me, go clean your + batt terminal, clamps and bolt thing that goes to your fused disconnect box, and most likely that will solve your whine! please post and tell!

I have the same problem on my rover a whine noise comming from the radio. Actually I have two. The first one is a loud whinning noise that is tuned with the engine, as I accelerate the noise increases this was caused by cables comming from the steering wheel making connection with some metal parts. I moved the cables out of the way and the problem went away. Cables are located right under the steerign wheel, test them by having your car on making the noise jiggle the cables and see if the noise goes away. The second noise is a low whinning noise that is also comming from the radio, this is not in tune with the engine it is constant and low. I don't quite hear it that much when the wind is blowing hard or when I have the music up so it only bothers me when I have the radio off. No solution for this one though.

The second noise is puzzling? You say it's still there when the radio is switched off, constant and low. You haven't got the air conditioning fan on, without knowing it?
Just a thought.

Check you vents in the car. If one or two of the vents are closed and you turn the heat or ac on it will make a low high pitch noise. (noise of air coming though the closed vents).

If the buzzing is still on when the radio is off the amp must still be on. Do you have an after market amp? What is it wired into?

You don’t say what model/year you have but my Discovery ’00 started doing something similar. Initially the dealer said a bad alternator, but as it turned out it was the amp.

I can't see how the amp can be on, if the radio is turned off? With an aftermarket amp for instance, the signal wire from the radio head unit turns it off or on, so if the radio is off, the amp is off.

Michael: Regarding the whining noise as you accelerate, how long have you had it; did it suddenly start; and have you had any electrical work done in your engine bay?
