Is there an easy way to reduce the amount of free play in the steering wheel.

you have two options and one might be your only solution. either your steering box needs tightened or it needs replaced. just hope it can be adjusted, since they are damn pricey. there is an adjustment screw on it, but be very careful with this as it is VERY easy to overtighten this and cause a very serious situation on the road. tighten it in VERY small incriments and see if you can get the steering wheel to move less and still feel loose enough to turn with easy at all speeds. if this does not work you may be in the need for a new box. i believe there are places that sell rebuilds, but i don't remember who. i had one replaced on my '94 years ago and it was over $500.

what milage is on the current box. I just purchased a '95 with 80k, and steering box, and bushing replacement was the first project. Made all the difference in the world. Also check the steering damper
