Brian:

Park your rig in a hotel/motel lot and sleep in the back under some blankets. If you have tinted windows - even better. Parking most other places will have a cop tapping on your glass with his Maglite at 3am.

I done it plenty of times and it never fails.

I like camping along the river. Only a couple of buck a night but only minutes from main street and if you get hot you can just jump in the river.

Drive up along 128 there are a lot of spots if it is not a busy weekend.

Two areas I like are heading into town from I-80,turn right onto the road (seven mile canyon rd) that is signed for the enterence to canyonlands NP, or dead horse point. On the link above the map shows it going to the white rim trail. About 1/2 to 1 mile after the railroad track crossing is a camp ground on the left. It is free blm primative camping(no crapers). Second place is past archs NP but before you cross the Colorado river. It is UT rt 279, the road is called Pot Ash Road it is a right turn off of 191. Before you get to the "porthole" which is the canyon where the co river runs, on your left is a large flood plan that has camping too., look for the entence about 1/2 after the turn. Again free and primitive. For more adventure, run the Gemini Bridges trail backwards. About 3 miles into it near gooney bird rock is a free blm primive campground. The drive is dirt road easy, but on a shelf road. Very remote and fun to wake up in the morning to hugh slick rock walls. The site is listed on any Gemini bridges trail map. Those are the closest to town, the ones along the colorado river on ut 128 are great ones too, they tend to fill fast, but only $7 a night with pit toilets and trash cans. Might be the best choice for you and the kids.

Brian,

Head down Kane Creek Road. There are plenty of campsites. Even on a busy weekend. Once you hit the dirt road you can primitive camp almost anywhere, but there are some incredible (and free) campsites all over.

Curtis
