I want to mount a "mag light" type flashlight in between the seat and center console of my disco. Does anyone have any sugestions on what kind and where to buy?

On my 98 Disco a 3 DCell mag slides between the seat and the centre console (where the cubby box and gear leaver are). It's not moved etc. without any extra clips.
You could probably fit a 4-Dcell in there too.

Horness.

If your in the US, Home Depot has an entire section devoted to Mag-lites, and has the mounts your looking for...

i use flashlights everyday as part of my job. the streamlight stinger is my choice of lights. i mounted one on the passenger side of my console. check with galls they are a police supply company in lexington, kentucky and they have decent prices or any police supply for that matter. (well thats all relative, anytime it involves police supplies everything goes miltary and cost 100 of times more than they actually cost) anyways the stringer provides a clear sharp adjustable beam. it is as bright as the mag light but doesn't have the burn time due to its battery size. the are much smaller than the mag light which makes it alot easier to use. they go for about 130 bucks and that inculdes an ac and a dc charger. i am about to mount a larger worklight in the rear compartment. stinger makes this one and is used by fire depts. IMHO

Hey M.K.Watson,

Is the stinger your refering to a rechargable? I have a stinger and it takes two photo sized bulbs. I'm always having to replace the bulbs and they're expensive. I know that they make a rechargable stinger and I was going to buy this and mount it in my '95 Disco. Streamlight also make other models, any experience with them? I'd love a Maglite sized rechargable streamlight hard wired into my truck!

PS My little stinger is way more powerful than my maglite!

Hello All,

Just to throw another 2 cents into the fray... I really like the Maglight MagCharger Flashlight. It is the same size as a three D-Cell Maglight, but is much, much brighter. It is rechargable, with a combination vehicle mount/charger base. I have a charger base in all of my Vehicles, and swap the flashlight itself between them. It's always charged and ready to go, and the beam focus is great, light output awesome. I will admit I have never tried the Stinger, but would find it hard to believe their light is that much better, if any (Keep in mind the MagCharger's light intensity and focus is far better than a D-Cell Maglight, in my opinion). Just another Option...

Hey Scott,

I was wondering about the magcharger, thanks. I happen to love my maglight, mostly for the durability of the all aluminum housing. The only problem I've ever had with it is that little rubber dohicky over the button. It always seems to get lost! LOL, I know it's not just me, I've seen many a maglight without it!

Is the Magcharger hardwired into the truck? Meaning, do you connect it directly to the battery or do you have to go through the cigarette lighter? Thanx

John...

Hey John.

They can be direct wired, mine are. The Base unit's power lead is terminated in a two prong plug. Mag Light Offers a direct wire, cigarette lighter plug, and 120 V AC wiring harness that than plugs into this plug. Your Choice. Great light, durable, bright, always ready, and can even double as a weapon if pressed....

Let me tell you about my maglight. (One of the metal 4 d-cell models.) I had it in my 97 Disco (stuck between the passenger seat & center console) when I rolled the truck on I95 going 55mph (long story..) It got thrown out of the rover onto I95 and it was run over by several cars & trucks. I was able to grab it before I left the accident scene - and it still worked. Bulb didn't even break. It's a wee bit scratched & dinged up, but who cares? :)

And that leads me to my 2nd point - myself, my wife and kids were SUPER LUCKY not to have been killed by this thing (it's pretty heavy & all metal). I no longer have it smushed between the seats in my new 2001 DII.... for now it's in my glove compartment, until I find a good mount for it.

Anywayz, thanks to all for tips on where to get mounts.

jroc

yes its the mini light (stinger) its recharable and is hardwired in to the trucks electrical system. its nice when you need a light to reach down and grab a light that has a full charge.

Thanks! I went to home Depot and got a 4D Mag light. It was $20 with Energizer batteries. The mounts were $3. I already monted it. It was exactly what I wanted.
