What is CDL and what does that have do do with my transfer case? By the way I have a 98 D1 with a transfer case the makes a clunk sound when accelerating.

Center Differential (diff for short) Lock, should put "power" to all the wheels so not just one tire on each axle spins. Are you sure its the t-case and not a u-joint?

I took it to the dealer 1 week ago and they told me it was the transfer case. But it sounds just like a u-joint. When I accelerate from start I can feel the freeplay. Also if this helps, when I'm turning and hit a bump I get the sound again.

Does the clunk occur on take off from a dead stop or just when accelerating?

Only happens from a dead stop and never happens when my truck is cold.

As cheap as ujoints are, may be a good idea to replace it anyway. A LOOSE joint is never a good thing...
