Loaded question for everybody out there..........(I know that there are plenty of opinions!) ; ) I have a 95 Disco with 90K on it. My wife keep s pestering me about getting a D2 that is a little plusher inside - who am I to argue with a new truck?! Anyway, I am not as loaded as the general public and the Xterra owners would like to believe so I have no intention of waiting to buy an '03 D2 (even though I would love that 4.6) and watching it depreciate as I drive off of the lot. So I am looking at buying a good '99, '00, or '01 D2. Any big critiques of any of these years that I should be aware of? I have heard a few different times that the '00s were prone to lifter problems - anything else to look for as a problem area in these years? ALSO - what is the general consensus out there - will the August release of the new '03 drive down values on the other D2s out there (my thinking being that a lot of people may trade in their truck to get a new one with a bigger engine)? What do you guys think?? (thanks in advance for the feedback!) |

I've got a 99 (bought new) and have slowly been modifing it, latest mod was the Skerritt CDL link for $145. I've only had two major issues: broken radiator and an almost catasphrophic overheat when the idler pulley broke and destroyed the serpentine. Both fixed under recall/warranty, no charge. It seems that the 99 is more reliable compared to the later models or maybe there just weren't that many of them. |

jarrod when ever a more popular varient of a vehicle arrives - something called the 'halo effect' occurs. i'd say the 4.6l will enhance used car prices. the blue books generaly are not very accurate guides anyway. will people run in droves to get the 03's? - most likely not. landrover is in the too little too late party right now, so as far as depriciation etc... the landrovers fall at the same speed as other u.s. cars. drive any new car off the lot and you loose 30%. now as a used car i'd imagine the 4.6l d2s with factory cdl will be the ones people would want. also choose if you are going to lease or buy. if lease - then you can't beat the rates on a new sd. also the kalahari is the nicest of the current crop. if used - then get what works for you best... steveII |

What lifter problems were the '00s prone to? Inquiring '00 Disco owners want to know. ;) Jason |

Jason, not sure of the lifter problem, but some '00's had an exhaust valve problem. The guides were macined undersized, causing the exhaust valve to stick if there were any carbon buildup. Mine were corrected under warrantee when my Service Engine Soon light came on. |

Thanks for all the feedback guys. The "lifter problem" is only heresay so maybe I better keep my mouth shut. ;) I heard what I thought was a lifter tapping on a '00 Disco and was asking a dealership about warranty information. They advised that was a common warranty item with '00 Discos. |
