On RoverTym rock sliders, what do the RivNuts actually do? I cannot find a use for them, seeing as how they only press in (strength?). It seems to me that all of the weight and stress is held by the 6 gr8 1/2" x 4 1/2" bolts that "sandwich" the subframe. Any thoughts?

I just bought some used RoverTym sliders and had the two pieces welded together and used just the 6 bolts to attach. It is solid and there are no nuts on the bottom to get bent up.

Jay,
That's exactly what I have done, only mine are not welded yet. How did you make up for the upward slope of the front part of the main slider? The angle iron that goes underneath stays flat, but the actual slider slopes upward.

I think the rivnuts just add additional bearing points along the length of the slider. I just installed mine (after they had sat in the basement for over a year) and kind of wondered the same question. The metal in the truck's sill is not that thick, and having only six bolts making contact with it I could see the holes in the body steel getting deformed. The more bolts you have into that, the more you spread out the weight.
