I just wanted to thank everyone, especially Koby, Brian Friend (stop thinking) and Blue (listen to me..call EE), for their help in shock selection. I just installed OME HD shocks/springs and a TJM bumper this weekend and the car looks and drives GREAT. As one disco owner said, it's the way the truck should have come in the first place. Also thanks to KVT for his tech section article on installing the shocks/springs that even and idiot can follow and also to John at EE. You deserve you're rep, EE is great and the Discoweb forum is irreplaceable! Now, who wants to teach me how to drive? (My wife's input after complimenting me on how the truck looks...)

Chris: Truck looks great, I have a 96 D1 in black with TJM bumpers front and back. Now I just need the shocks and springs. One question though. I haven't been able to get the lights in the front bumper working properly. Have you had any luck? I followed the instructions, and used the two relays, but no luck. If you could shed some light, that would be most helpful. Thanks,

Aaron

Hey,
Specificaly, what doesnt work? I just ran down to my truck and everything seems to work fine. While I and some friends installed the shocks & springs, I had the bumper installed by my body shop (I had a mild fender bender thus prompting me to replace the bumper). I can ask my shop if you want.

How did they wire up the lights? There are two wires from the light bar, how are these connected? I can get them to come on with the running lights, but then they won't blink, and viceversa. What wires did they tap into? Did they use the relays? Sorry for all the questions. There are the sidelights that came with the stock bumper, and the two indicator lights that are above the bumper. Am I missing something? Thanks for responding. If you could look at your's, or ask your shop, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks again.

Aaron

Should've been about 2" unless he got taller springs. Maybe just a tad taller until they settle. I doubt it though w/ those bumpers. I have a solid 2" w/ OME HD and TJM front

it actualy went up 2.5 inches pretty much all around, but thats comparing it to my old springs with 80k miles on them. I would imagine that if you were comparing them to a new D1 and after they settle, they should be about 2inches.

Chris,

How big are your tires?

I'm looking at whether to do Tires/Shocks/Springs in one shot, or to do the Shocks/Springs first, then Tires later (w/in a month or so). Hate to have the thing on the road for a month looking like garbage with little sneakers...

Thanks Brian.

George, you're not implying that my truck looks like garbage are you? :-)

I currently have 245/70/16, just a bit bigger than stock. Clearly nead more meat. As the tires are fairly new, I might have to live with it a bit...

Chris,

Hells, no.......if I drive my rig for a month with the same proportions you have there, I'd be fine.....I still have the stockies, so the real estate between the tire and the well is likely to make me feel like I'm on bicycle tires....LOL. I figured you were on 245's, but wanted to confirm.......

Of course, if it looks like crap, the "Boss" may WANT me to get newer tires faster....hmmmm.....

Chris,
If you're looking for something to fill up the space until you can get some meats, I've got a set of Pathfinder A/T's that I'm looking to get rid of. They are 265/75R16. 4 have about 40% tread, and then the spare is unused. You can have them for $300 if you're interested. I know this isn't the "for sale" section, but I figure it's worth a shot.

Best-
Zach

George,
Thats funny. As soon as I was done, I started to qualify to my wife that the gap between the bumper and grill would look better with a nice pair of Hellas and the car would look more balanced with new tires. She saw right threw me and told me to save my money...her birthday is next month...and no, I dont think she wants a set of lights or tires!
