MSC industrial supply J&L industrial supply Enco Harbor Freight Tools Look around at what they have to offer and then look at the ranges of measurement you will need. If you are measuring distances of 0.0001 inch, you do not want a one inch travel indicator. Base styles-there are any of a number of different style bases available, clamp-on, magnetic, with/without fine adjustment. Get some catalogs and see what's available and what you need. As for brands, obviously, Starrett, Brown & Sharpe and Mitutoyo are thetop of the line, but for most of us, we will never need the slight added precision/accuracy and it is just that much more to lose when you drop one (and you will, oh yes, you will!). All of the above referenced companies have periodic specials on base/indicator combos. Peace, Paul
