anybody else baffled by the amount of Rover coverage in the newest Four Wheeler?? 2 of the first 3 articles are Rover related, a disco trip thru some far and away place, a freelander review and an 05 disco spyshot. All before page 25?? maybe being aligned with ford is starting to pay off.

I like the fact that they reported on the freelander for what it is, generally they have a habit of focusing on whats wrong with any given test vehicle.

Good readings on the articles from far away places.

Lately they have Expedition stories where they take the Disco up to Newfoundland (that's in Canada for folks like me that failed geography 101). Yep, Four Wheeler been putting LRs in their mag more often lately.

It's about time they do. I'm sick of turning the pages thinking I'm reading a j**p brochure.

That pretty much summarizes the magazine well Jim. Why do they put these trucks in the magazine if they're not even trail worthy? I'm sure a custom painted excursion with a killer sound system would kick ass off road-yeah right!

yea all those things can go through is mud, thats it. With those huge tires and lift. Notice all those shots are just in mud or on grass. Waste of money in my mind.

That's dogshit reading too- They never show these "monster trucks" real off roading. I would love to see lifted f150's or blazers try wheeling at places rovers do. Funny how the best wheelers (LR's,Hummer,G's) are rarely featured in these mags. It must be the custom paint, sound system, and neons-

Gil:
I take from your comment that you think the Ford influence will be a good thing for LR. Seems like you sell LRs, I can't remember. Can you elaborate without violating NDAs and such?

i think it will be a good thing from a profit and loss perspective for Land Rover the company. I think it will be good from a marketing and finance perspective for LRNA and dealers. Ford has more aggressive programs, more money for R & D, faster development times, and hopefully a more reliable product. I think it will NOT be good from an enthusiast perspective. Models will be watered down with shared parts bin components, the identity of the brand will be blurred somewhat to those already familiar with it, but on the flip side many people who right now dont even know what a Land Rover is will be driving them in a few years. I guess it all depends on your perspective.

Gil,
I tried not to respond, but I guess my distaste for the Ford company finally won out. Ford has the worst customer service of any major brand and that has already rubbed off on Rover dealerships across the country. I will never own a Rover that was built under Ford's ownership or one that I have to take to the dealer for work. Everyone is entitled to his opinion and mine is that Ford buying Rover was about like finding out your daughter was marrying Marilyn Manson.

I feel the same way about Toyota. I got alot further with Ford than I did Toyota. But I understand where your coming from.

Peace

hey paul, im no ford advocate. I agree with you completely. Land rover will never be what it used to be. In my opinion the last decent year for rover was 1998.

Gil, Ron,
Thanks guys. Sometimes I think maybe I'm blinded by my deep abiding loathing for Ford, but sounds like others agree.
Thanks again and salute to classics.

Even though I hate everything Ford, I would like to see a superduty Disco...the Discovery "FX4," if you will.

Thom-

I think you're referring to the Jensen Interceptor. Had a 440, A727 T-Flite and 4 wheel drive!

Kinda late, er, early back there isn't it?

BTW-

Since we're talking Brit's and Fords-make mine a GT40 MkII (Brit-built w/427 side-oiler) or better yet, a GT40 MkIV (US-built w/427 side-oiler).

Dog on Ford all you like, they make some bad-ass cars right now!

Look at the lightning. That truck is probably faster than any of the cars mentioned, probably even handles better, and its a truck!

How about the 03 Corbra. It runs 12.9 in the quarter from the factory. What did a 66 mustang do the 1320 in, 16 seconds? Please!

All the people who say they hate everything ford have probably only driven the taurus and exploder. They make some off the good stuff too.

IMHO, of course.

Daniel,
Some and I repeat some of the Ford products are fair, in the short run. But long term they are all crap and dealer support is non-existent. That is the voice of experience speaking. The only good thing Ford ever did for me was force me to look elsewhere and that's how I got into Rovers. Then Ford bought them ARRRGGG!!!
