97 Discovery SD7

Have heard that the light can come on due to the sensor backing out or needing cleaning. How hard is this to check, and how do you do it?

Thanks for the help!

Very easy. Turn your wheel to the far left then go to the front of the vehicle and look at the break caliper. There's a small wire going down into it from the top with a bushing around it. That's the ABS sensor. Push it down holding the wire as much as possible. Then do the same in the rear...however you may have to pull the wheels to get to them. Then crank it up and see if the light is off. If not you may have a sensor gone bad which is like $200...but I'd try pushing down a few times first.

Where is the best place to pick up the sensors (price)? Does DiscountRovers sell them?

If pushing the sensor works than thats great for you, but if it doesn't take it to the dealer and have them check them for you, they can tell you which one is bad and it cost $40 bucks to do so, that way you fix the right sensor when you get one. The cheapest one I found was from a wrecking company called "Land Rover Wreck Parts" Phone# 1-888-908-7575. I don't know if you want to use a used part for this but it's your call, they have sensors for $75 each. Other than that DAP has them the cheapest for a new one that is.

John...I'm in Charlotte and the monsoon is going on here as well. I was sailing in Atlanta this weekend and the lake was 8 feet above full pond. All the beaches, pavillions, roads, and shacks near the water were under. Lake Norman in NC was 2 feet over flood level a few weeks ago. And we would've killed for this water this time last year...

Note that you can only read the codes yourself on a 95 or earlier Disco; otherwise it requires the dealer or a shop with the other Rover-reading systems. Also note that the Spanish Trails writeup is for a Range Rover. On a Disco you do not have to unplug the relay, and the diagnostic connector is located to the left of the steering wheel under the black panel under the dash.

John...I went to do mine today and couldn't figure it out...97 d1. Is there no way to do this without taking it to the dealership?

Peter,
Do this instructions also include a Disco with the 6-disc CD changer. I might be looking in the wrong place but underneath my driver seat is my CD-changer and I can't see the small 4 pin connector??

Brad:
Sorry, anything newer than 95 means a trip to the dealer or an independent with Rovacom or Autologic,
John
