Anyone know who makes a good set of diff guards for the DII? I looked at the ones RoverBiz makes but the mounting bolts hang down below the diff guard(what genius!). I like the MJ Lee but they only make them for the DI. THanks

Southdown USA makes front and rear for D2. Here are some pics of their rear diff guard.

Apparently I've come to depend on the rear guard :-). They make the "Genuine" LR guards.

I cannot say enough good things about SouthDown Diff Protection. Good Stuff. Sometimes it can be a prick to get a set, so check out Rovers North.

Kirk and Paul,

I have two questions about the Southdown diff guards.

1) Does installation require welding?
2) How would one access the drain plug for maintenance?

Thanks,
-Eugene

Eugene -
1) The rear diff guard bolts on - there is a hoop with a tab through which the guard bolts into the bolt circle on the diff /axle housing. Then, there are two holes in the front of the guard that accomodate bolting through the harmonic damper into the pinion casing. Easy installation but remember to use loctite.

2) I think there is a hole for drain plug access, but I'll have to check that. Otherwise, just unbolt it from the vehicle - again, easy. plus that eliminates getting diff fluid slopping around in the low spots on the guard.

Between the two attachment points, the guard is pretty well staying with the diff, even on fairly rough front/back and lateral hits that tend to jar diff guards loose.

Thanks Kirk! I'll inquire with Rovers North about obtaining a set.

Both the front and rear offer access for drain plug and fill plug. As Paul, I have both the rear pictured in Kirk's pic's, and the front one that clamps around the axle. Neither require welding, but also as Paul mentioned they may be hard to come by. Rover's North seems to be a good source. They are not cheap though. :-)
