I have a 99 disco I that I think is in need of some new shocks. The truck has 56K miles on it, I bought it with 50K about 10 months ago.

The truck did not seem to have any issues when I first bought it... But this winter has been really hard on my town pothole wise and I think the potholes just got the best of my shocks.

Now even with moderate highway bumps I feel the car is bouncing around too much. For a while I had a steering wheel bump shake also, this was rectified by replacing the steering damper however the car still seems to just take bumps too hard.

Is 56K a reasonible time to change the shocks?

If so can anyone recommend a replacement shock? I buy most of my parts from Nathan now so most likely will source it from him unless someone else has a deal. I am looking for something on the stock level of hardness as I dont take the car off road really.

Would it make sense to replace the springs at the same time? I am really hurting for funds for the next 2-3 months at my wedding is coming up so dont want to spend more then I have to but on the other hand dont want to chnge the shocks now and the springs 2 months from now...

Rich

Rich,
Congrats on your upcoming wedding. I was in a similar situation last year and chose to delay upgrading the shocks/springs until after the wedding. If you can afford it, it makes sense to do it all at the same time. Thats what I did last week. I am very very happy with my OME HD set up.

Rich, I just ordered new Bilstiens from Performance Center(found on the dealer link at Bilstien) for $72 each. I'm doing just the shocks, not springs and lift kits like so many guys here would have you believe you must do. my D2 has 45k and I think it time for new shocks.

Rich,

I have stock shocks and springs from my '03 disco. If your disco is a DII '99 they will fit. I used them for 2k before I replace them with HD OME's so I can go off roading. If you want, I'll sell them all to you for $150 plus shipping. Let me know if you are interested. damien_choi@hotmail.com

Damien

I know it's a tech section, not classifed section. My aplogies.
