Man oh Man.....Hell yes they are still built. I just got back from 2 weeks in the UK and I saw some amazing Defender vehicles. 90's, 110's, 130 truck styles, they were everywhere.

Damn.

Man that is one awesome vehicle. I'm gonna have one someday!

I revisited the Landrover site and clicked on UK and there it was. Why the UK and not the US? Dang! That stinks!

It was weird seeing Diesel Equipped D2's over there as well.

They don't meet current NA safety standards (i.e., no airbags) and LR didn't want to go through the hassle of having them brought up to standard. Turned out to be a great ploy for existing Defender owners who got to benefit from vehicle appreciation (instead of the huge depreciation the rest of us Disco and RR owners swallow).

A friend of mine in the UK just bought an 18 month old D-90SW for about $23k. Makes me sick!

Yeah, those are some nice looking trucks. I wish they will bring them over to NA, the engine does seem a bit weak for that big of a truck though!!!

Defenders are not made for speed to say the least. LR didn't convert to NAS standards, and it looks like a long time before they will be imported again. Meanwhile, current defender owners are making a killing on resale value. It's sick to read how cheap they're getting them gor over in the UK.

Does anyone know what it costs to have one shipped over?
Can you find one with the steering wheel on the left side?
I would guess they make them for the European market.?

Run a search on this site and on d-90.com. This has been discussed to death.

To summarize, it's expensive and next to absolutely painful. Their is a guy in CA that is importing 10-12 stripped down D110's for $40K+ in the near future.

Shipping is the least of it. I looked into bringing a Series III from Ecuador, and the transport to NJ would have cost around $600 (a bargain!)

The killer was that the vehicle had to be brought up to US spec (pollution and safety items) for the year in question, and it had to be certified by one of a handful of companies that do this kind of work. I'm sure that for a Defender, the cost would be substantial.
At the time, I just didn't want to go through the hassle
