I have a DII with SLS and I'm planning on upgrading the suspension this summer. I haven't had any problems with the SLS but I never tow anything.

Is there any benefit to keeping the SLS?

You can trick the SLS sensors to give the rear a lift of 1 to 2 inches. Rovertyme makes spacers to reduce the pressure in the bags if you go this route or more than 2 inches. You can go the cheap route and replace the front spings and shocks and just trick the rear to match the height of the front springs you choose. The SLS is intended for towing applications making the truck level out when towing a heavy trailer. I have been running the tricked out sensors without spacers for over 6 months with no problems. Mine are tricked about 1 3/8 inches, since I am only running OME MD up front.

Mike,

This depends on your planned use or abuse and the amount of lift that you decide. I recommend that if you upgrade the suspension (i.e. lift); to go ahead and remove the SLS rear bags. There are many people that run a lifted SLS D2 with the Bags and have not had any problems. However, if you are out and about on some trails and you over extend / tilt / or load an SLS bag; the results can be very bad.

I think Paul is referring specifically to my experience with the tricked SLS bags. If you plan to do any serious off-rovering, lose the bags and go with springs. Besides having better and more reliable off-rover performance, you'll also have a much better on-road feel.
I blew one of my SLS bags on a trail at Uwharrie this year. Not fun.
Paul, how was your trip?

Jason,
Was the bag blown from being overpressured? I assume you had the RTE spacers, since you were selling them, I think. I am trying to decide whether to go with the spacers or swap to springs. Is the swap easy as far as extra parts needed? Are there any info sources out there for the swap? Thanks
Jack

I don't recall whether the bag blew from overextension or overpressure. I didn't have the spacers installed yet so I was running strictly tricked.
As far as parts needed for the swap, all you need is the spring seat and spring. I didn't install retainers because my shocks limit my travel. It's a VERY simple procedure. All you have to do to disable the system is pull the fuse under the hood.

Jack,

Converting from air to coil is soooo very simple. You will have to obtain the lower spring retainers so you can properly mount them. Jason can correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure it's a good idea to remove the SLS system fuse as well.

Jason,

Which trip are you referring to? GWNF was incredible! Beautiful area, fun trails, and it was great having Mike Noe and Neal Glessner there to show us around. Saturday night it rained its ass off! Overall great fun with good people. I brought a Marine along for the ride and he is now looking for a D1. Damn contagious hobby!

England was nice, but I was working 12 hours a day, six days a week repairing a F-15E. But that's another story that we'll take offline.
