I looked at a 97 disco w/69k this morning. The guy is asking $9800.00 I noticed the driver side alpine window had major rust on the bottom side, the entire length of the window. Passenger side, no trace of rust whatsoever. Both door jams/wheel wells are perfect. The whole body appeared to be all oringinal, it is black so any body work would be hard to hide. I think I read a while back about someone having similar thing happen. It just seems odd that only one side had it, and that bad. Inside on the side window, the top rubber seal looked like it was painted with rust colored paint so it must leak through. The tag on the drivers door jam had a build date of 7/96. Anyone think this would still be covered under warranty? He bought it from a lot in TX about 1 1/2 yrs ago and said he's taking a good size loss at $9800. I'm in St. Louis and discos from private owners are hard to find. -Matt |

Rust around the alpine windows in older discos is not uncommon. I try to make sure it's clean and dry as much as possible (and rear door jams) A 1997 disco would be out of warranty for a while now if it had the standard 4yr 50k. That price could be a little high judging by the rust you spoke of. Just DON'T SETTLE on a disco if it's not what you want. Also, do you know any past services or mechanical history on the disco? |

Matt, i have a 96 Disco built in July of 96. Same type of rust, same place, despite have been repaired under warranty in 98. The corrosion warranty is 7 years, so you're SOL. it shouldn't be too difficult to pull the seal, replace it, and do something about the rust. peter |
