A few days ago, I installed the rebuilt alternator on my 95 Disco. Tach worked again right away. However, on my way to work this morning, I noticed that when I accelerate at idle or from a complete stop, the temp gauge spikes to 3/4 of the way up, then comes down. This is opposed to before when I would overheat at idle in hot weather. I had previously concluded that I need a new radiator. However, could this new problem be related to the condition of the belt? Did it stretch and when I gun it cause the belt to slip? The belt needs replacement but I didnt feel like getting a cheap one at Discount Auto Parts because the numbers didnt match. Any thoughts? |

Jorge: Check the belt routing, it sounds as though you may have installed it incorrectly, allowing the belt to slip at higher revs. It is very common. In spite of the many times I have removed and replaced belts on these vehicles, I ALWAYS have to refer to my diagram. I can't decide if I should have it tattooed on my wrist, or just make a stencil and spray paint it on every wall of the shop! Peace, Paul |

The belt is a seven groove, 88 inch length. Everybody makes them. Same belt as on some Dodge pick-up trucks. Peace, Paul |

Ok.. the day after the truck was overheating, the truck was completely dead and would not start. Battery hydrometer on the acdelco battery was dark indicating it needed a charge. I guess I am charging the battery first, then replacing the belt with a new one I just bought. Hope its the belt/belt install. If not I will check the alternator connection etc. Any thoughts? |

Its not the belt or the battery. Seems the rebuilt alternator isnt working. The dash and headlights get brighter when i accelerate. The real diagnosis will be tommorrow when I head to work.Any leads in case I cant get the rebuilt working right? |
