Wondering if anyone out there has the RPI chip in a 3.9, and could post any details.

Thanks

The Optimax chip is an improvement, but it is also designed to be used with a slightly uprated camshaft. I substituted a freeflowing exhaust system instead of the cam. The ECU should be programed to match the changes you make to the engine(all your engine components should be matched). You can get the chip reprogramed for about $100. Once you have changed a chip, it only takes you 15 minutes to do it the next time.

What you get:
Much smoother idle. Less flooding on cold start up. One second delay on startup (to pump oil first). Stronger power band in the mid-range. Better fuel efficiency. No maximum vehicle speed.

Thanks,

Where or who can reprogram the chip in the U.S.? I've got a '90 3.9.

Mark Adams actually makes these chips. Unfortunately his business is in the UK. Look at the advertisers index in the back of some LR magazines and you will probably find him listed.

Also unfortunately your truck may have the CU EFI system. Even though it has the 3.9 engine, the CUX computer was not introduced until 1991 model. I think you can just plug the newer computer in and go, but I would email Mark Adams to find out first.

Also, check out Franc's website: http://www.StunnedBuffalo.com, he does the same thing and maybe a tad cheaper than RPI or Mark Adams. FYI.
