I decided to drop my oil pan the past week in order to clean out the sludge and unclog the oil pick up screen.

There was sludge in the bottom of the pan and a light brown film on the rods and pan surface (I suspect this is a byproduct of burning oil?). The pick up screen did have sludge in it as well but not as much as I expected.

In anticipation of dropping the pan I purchased a new pick up screen from Land Rover (part# 602070)...here's the thing, the replacement screen is almost twice as big as the one I took out of the pan (the replacement screen has a 4 inch diameter). What's up with that!

Also, how do you change the screens... the screen I took out of the rover seems to be permanently attached to the pick up tube..it's crimped on...

Has anyone out there have any idea on what size the screen should be... did land rover update the screen/piockup tube at a later date to account for sludge promblems????
