This afternoon I took all the plastic parts except for the headlamp washers off my front bumper to do some rust removal. After some attention with a wire wheel, I hit it with a coat of primer and then 2 coats of gloss black. The end result is that I like the looks of the front end better with out all the plastic on it.
The stock bumper doesn't deserve the name, it should be called the mounting bracket for the plastic.

A quick search of the archives revealed a ton of info about bumpers with winches, but nothing of note about non winch bumpers. As I have no need or use for a winch on this rig I am interested in non winch bumpers that are available.

Any advice or recommendations?

Mike mine is like that, at school one day my friend backed into my in his brand new Maxima. He has a huge gash in his bumper, so be careful those are real sharp edges. And I belive ARB makes a non-winch bumper. Check out EE for that. And I think tjm might make one, i think i saw one, but again check out EE.

I would doubt you are going to save money by going with a non winch bumper over one that fits a winch. I personaly don't run a winch and have the SG bumper. I just put my license plate over the winch opening and I think it looks great. You can check my gallery I'm sure there is a pict of the front of my truck in there somewhere.

I had a deer decide to rearrange to front of my discovery. As an insurance settlement I had a non-winch ARB put on. The insurance co. had a problem with putting on a winch arb, but not the non-winch version. Plus I didn't have the money at the time to put in a winch, so I decided on a non-winch arb. The best thing is you can easily convert a non winch arb to a winch bumper by cutting the bumper and fabing the brackets. They look basically the same, just lacks the holes for the winch and the thingy that protects the roller fair lead. I had a shop out here that builds off road gear for toyotas quote me $75 for 1 hour of labor and material to convert the bumper. If you ever want a winch, get the winch bumper, the price will end up being the same. Bill at GBR sells ARB's and has the plans to convert the non-winch to a winch bumper.
