Yay!

Well, the first modification to the LR was a set of OME HD X4 springs, and the N115 & N44 shocks from EE. I also put in a new OME steering damper.

Next on the list was some new tires, but I had to wait a week for it to come. The tires on the LR were all different brands and in horrible condition.

So, I opted for the BFG 235/85/16 Muds. Did a little bit of trimming here and there, and adjusted the steering stops; whalla!

Before doing it all, I measured a few places LR. All of the measuring spots were body sections, and now I wish I would have checked the diff, etc.

Overall, I gained 4" on the body/cab area. I would assume the other underside parts would be less? Maybe the supposed 2"?

Measuring the bottom of the rear hitch on level ground, it sits at 21 3/4" from the ground.

Is the body increased height normally 4"? I like it, but it is just shocking that now I fall out of the LR when getting out. :-) (I am only 5'7").

Have any before and after pictures?
I know you'll enjoy your new set-up!
Your old springs here toast.
Good Luck!

spring height plus new tire height will give you close to 4" if your original springs were on the saggin' side. my advice is get some rocksliders with a wide side rail to step on. i'm also vertically challenged and i run redrock sliders. rovertym or EE sliders also have a wide rail that can be used as a step.
now get that thing dirty!

Thanks for the replies.

The overall installation was straight forward, but difficult on the shock-tower nuts. :-) I had to use 34 dremel HD cutting disks to finally get the nut off in that 2 inch by 3 inch space.

I will try to get some pictures this weekend. The most surprising thing of all, the Disco drives much more smoothly on the road! At highway speeds, it feels great compared to before.

Anyhow, I will snap some pictures soon.

Thanks,

Mike

how about sacrificing power?!
don't you feel your vehicle reacts sluggishly and clumsily?!
my LRD is a '98 2.5 TDI (EDC) and my fear in replacing the tires to 235/85 is to end-up with a brougham...
has anyone experienced replacing the gear ratios in the differentials (to 3.80 and/or 4.10)? effects and influences?!
inputs will be appreciated!!!

Nir-

I was worried about the 15% or so claimed torque loss. But I have yet to really notice any major difference on asphalt.

I still mash on the gas and it seems like before in the mid range area. It does take a little more peddle effort off the starting line, but at 3000 rpms there is no difference.

Hi Nir
The Tdi seems more prone to this, you can change the diffs but you may find it easier to change the high range gears in the transfer box.
You are basically replacing them to match a 110.
My 300Tdi was sluggish, but I swapped the transfer box with one from a late 110 and this also helps with the speedo drive.
The increase in ground clearance off road more than compensates for a slight loss of power on it.
