phillip, the toe is the only thing that will be affected by what you are doing. we use a technique at our shop that has proven quite simple. 1.loosen front lugs 2.place 2 jack stands under front axle (one at each end) 3. remove front tires 4. remove track rod 5. take a rough measurement of the rod (measure from the center of joints) 6. install new joints and get close to the previous measurement. 7. install track rod, nuts etc... 8. using a steel straight edge placed against the flat portion of each hub, measure the distance between the front wheels (take two measurments, first from behind the wheel, second in front of the wheel) measurements sould be within even to the front being 2mm larger 9. factory spec for toe out is 0-2mm (toe out means the wheels look like this \/). i use 1/16th increments as it falls between 0 and 2mm. 10. adjust the track rod adjuster until the measurement is within spec. 11. once in spec. tighten the clamps on the adjuster, install wheels, remove stands and your done. good luck, if you have any questions i've got an article i can email to you that explains further. other than that the hardest part of the job will be getting the old ends off you track rod with out damaging the rod. rusty threads make this a real joy!!! marc |
