For those of you that want more power...

A good buddy of mine made a large sum of money with a public relations business he started for NASCAR 15 years ago and has always been a huge fan of AC Cobras. Now that he has money he has 2 of them (Cover article of Road & Track was about him awhile back - "Cross Country Cobra" and his name is Tom Cotter) and as a result is now very good friends with Carrol Shelby. Tom knows about me and Rovers and called the other day to tell me about a new project. He has engaged in a special project with Land Rover. Although he will not be directly involved his co-workers will be. The result will be 12 Land Rover Discoveries (all brand new) that will be fitted with the famous 427 engine used in the Cobras. I am not sure if the interior will be different or anything else, but these will definately be some neat trucks. I have a feeling they'll be geared for on-road performance though...w/ several other performance enhancements. Look for a press release and more information in the near future. The idea has just started coming to fruition and I'm not sure if they will be '03 or '04 trucks. Still a neat idea marrying Detroit Power with British something....

history repeating itself-with the same cast!

Original Cobra was a Ford V8 shoehorned in a British AC.

Proverbial 10 pounds in a 5 pound sack!

Shelby did this with a Dodge Durango three or four years ago.

Whatever.

Well, at least we'll see if the ZF and other kibbles and bits hold up to the big block. Seen alot of posts here abouts that say they will s^&t the bed.

I bet my balls they don't use a ZF, plus I'd love to see the amount of panel beating in the engine bay to fit one of these babies.

What a waste of a 427 FE block. I'd rather have one in a Cobra or GT40. Those are the rather rare side-oiler FE's and they are very heavy. If you've ever looked at an FE block they have skirts going down past the mains and are beefy as hell.

Why not go for an all-aluminum aftermarket V-8 block for light weight and still keep low COG? I personally would rather keep it an offroad vehicle.

I realize most of those aluminum blocks are Chevy-based but for the Ford crowd there's always this stroker Windsor-based 427: (should be lighter than FE)

Shelby will probably use one of HIS aluminum blocks in it. And you thought british parts were expensive...lol Thats gonna leave a mark...

i still think it's neat. I doubt it would've come to fruition if it wasn't the classic american power meets british _______.

You mean the Olds Aurora V8? I suppose with a bore and stroking and tweeking that aluminum v8 would do OK. It ain't no 427 though...

A big reason for the "claimed" performance of the NEW Shelby is because of it's 2300 lb weight. I say "claimed" because of all of shelby's probs bringing that car to market. Have any actually been delivered?

Well, it looks like they have been delivered-

Since I'm not in that market ($100k+) it really is irrelevant to me.
