Mine with 95 Disco(100K miles) needs to be be replaced.
Any advice for getting non-genuine one? I heard NRP but it seems to be pricy with $800...
I appreciate any input.

best wishes,

Jin

Do a search for "catco"

http://www.discoweb.org/cgi-bin/discus/search.cgi

About $60 each, I have been running them for about a year, no problems, alot of people here on dweb have used them also with no problems. Just have some muffler shop cut out the old ones and put the catco's in, total cost about $200 to $300 installed.

Thanks for the information, Alan. Unfortunately, I could not find any info. about catco following the search link you gave me with the keyword catco. Could you give me more specifics like where I could get them, etc?

Thanks in advance,

Jin

Summit racing for catco and most generic midas
take a look at www.d-90.com and do a search with catalytic converters, select first choice

Try the search again, I just pulled up a bunch of stuff.

Click on the link:

http://www.discoweb.org/cgi-bin/discus/search.cgi

check the search by keyword box, then type Catco in the search for section, click perform search button.

Call around locally for a muffler shop that has Catco Universal Cats #6005, should be around $60 each, you will need two, they will have to cut the old ones out and weld on the new ones.

Thank again for your kind reply. Disco web really rocks!
Couple of questions:
1. Do I need to prepare any other parts other than Catco #6005 (gaskets, etc)?
2. I am little bit worried about possible damage to O2 sensors when they weld the new converter. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks and best wishes,

Jin

1. Don't need anything else, alot of muffler shops carry the Catco 6005 universal cats in stock.

2. I didn't have any problems with my 02 sensors and they are pretty close, don't know if anybody else has had any problems, just point it out to the installer not to fry them and hopefully you won't trip any check engine lights.

I'm located in N.Y. and had a difficult time finding someone to install the catco cats I bought. None of the Major chains would touch a cut and weld job, they just want to put in what the "book" recommends. Finally found a place in Long Island (Westbury) that not only put mine in, but sold the catco cats as well. He had no problem using the one I brought him and was really nice about it. Don't remember the exact price but I do remember being shocked at how cheap the whole deal was. Took less than an hour and they did a great job.

If anyones interested the place is called American Muffler Shop 815 old country road, in westbury. The phone # is (516)333-8228 and you'll speak to either Mitch or Steve. I have no affilliation with this place, just thought I'd share the info. Good Luck, hope this helps someone out, and mentioning D-Web couldn't hurt. Thanks again to Perrone Ford who turned me onto the catco solution, just passing on the help. D-Web Rocks!!!

Thanks for the tips. I live in Atlanta, GA and I tried couple of Meineke and Midas today without much luck. Both of the places do not want to touch any converter from customer (Midas guys said its against EPS regulation and they could be fined $1500 for that)and Meineke offered cut and weld job using their aftermarket converter for $250 per side which means I have to pay $500 if I want to do both sides. One of Midas guys said he did cut and weld job to Discovery last year and the customer returned with leaking pipes after 6 months and he strongly suggest replacing entire Y-pipes using their after market part ($800 for part plus $150 for installation charge).
I am relocating to New York this summer and probably try the long island guys whom John recommend...
I am just wondering how long the welding job will last if I choose more economical solution instead of replacing entire Y-pipes.

Best wishes,

Jin

Call some independently owned muffler shops and performance shops, most chains won't have the Catco's, and won't install carry in parts. No problems with leaks here, about 1 year with Catco's.
