While cruising on the highway at say 65mph, if I want to pass a truck and quickly depress and hold the accelerator, my Disco doesn't seem to "kick" into a passing gear or downshift to increase the speed. It just slowly increases as if I am easing down on the accelerator. Am I missing something or is something missing?? Please help, my Ford 4 cyl. can out pass it... Not good!

Unfortunately it is fairly normal. You need to adjust your "kick-down" cable(I have no idea how to do that myself), or just do as I do and manually drop it down into 3rd.

A couple of years ago I was having the same problem. I took it to a LR mechanic and he gave it a normal servicing, including changing the fuel filter.

The filter looked like it had never been changed and gas would not flow through it via gravity (pour gas in one end, it should come out the other.)

The filter change was the only thing on the truck at the time that seemed out of spec. Whatever! After that service the performance improved markably to the Disco's normal non-performance.

Now I change the fuel filter with the oil filter.

Adjust kick-down cable. Blue posted directions out of the book a while back. I'm sure its in the archives. It's easy to do. This is the cable that controls how far down the pedal has to be down for it to down shift. You can adust it so it down shifts every time you touch the gas (ask me how I know). Then you know you've adjusted to far.

Fuel filter has nothing to do with when the x-mission shifts down.

Try it, it really works and you can keep adjusting till its just the way you like it. I think this is a really cool feature on disco's that you can adjust when it down shifts.

I have the same problem Mike, and I kinda thought it was normal for the Rover. This is a wonderful place.

I have a suggestion. When posting about a specific problem, mention it (the problem) in the thread title. Others with the same problem will be more likely to look and learn, rather than skip over a thread with an ambiguous call for help.
There is good info. here, but some may be missing out.
