Has anyone replaced a front sunroof motor on a D1 (MY '95)? Mine is grinding to a halt. I sure it needs a new motor. Hard? Simple for a novice with a few tools?? Any tips? Thanks! - Jay - |

You sure it is not rails? Usually rails go bad and cause that not the motor. Ron |

I just replaced the rails for the front sunroof on my '94 D1 and have some photos of the operation that may help. (I'll try to find the time to post them in the tech section but can email them to you sooner if you want). You don't have to remove the headliner to replace the motor, just the overhead "instrument panel" but Ron is probably right, it's probably the rails and not the motor -in which case the headliner does have to come down. The good news is that Land Rover knows the design of the rails is a little jakey so they've shown a little kindness in pricing the rail kits at only around $75 (at the dealer). Replacing the rails is actually pretty easy, but I cheated a little and only unfastened half of the headliner and then sort of 'folded' it down. Not very professional but a whole lot easier and no worse for the wear. Let me know if you want those photos. Jim |
