Replacing the thermostat on my '94 D1 and wondering if there's any advice out there? Looks like the alternator needs to come out (no problem), anything else? What's the risk factor in over-torquing the bolts and stripping out the aluminum? Standard or extra-touchy? Advice? (please) Thanks, Jim |

Jim: Pull the distributor cap up to give you some more room, don't remove the alternator. Don't use too big a ratchet and you own't over-torque the bolts. Buy a gasket and thermostat for a small block Chevrolet, I believe you want a temp range of about 160'F. You may have to drill a tiny hole where the original one had the jiggle pin to vent air. The specs are for 88 degrees C. Accordind to my calc., that is about 192 F. I put a 195 F. degree thermostat in. Could not find one with hole for jiggle pin so I just put it in. Runs fine. |
