Hi all,

Was wondering is anyone has removed the rear sway bar from a D1 and what the ride on/off road is like afterwards.

I have OME MD (front) n OME HD (rear) spring upgrades and the matching shocks in a two inch lift. Has anyone with these specs removed the rear sway? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Sway bars taken off driving on road. Can you say "wreck"? The trucks sway enough with a sway bar. Without would be fatal. Off road, not a clue.

Take them off. Bill is wrong. It will lean more around corners and such, but it wont be "fatal" (as Bill says for some reason)

Yeah, Bill is talking out of his ass. The front sway bar makes a big diffrence on-road but the rear is worthless. I removed my rear bar a couple of months ago and actually like the ride better. It hadles exactly the same in turns. I did notice that the ride is a little smoother after rear bar came off, go figure. My truck has the soft stock suspension too. Your truck should be firmer than mine so it will lean even less in corners.

As master Ho would say, JUST DO IT!

Something tells me Bill has not actually tried it. The rear will make no difference, zero, nada, none. The front will give you a little more body roll but it realy isn't that bad. I ride with them off all the time, done an emergency manuever once and even then everything was good. I vote for pulling them but only if you go offroad enough where crawling under there to undo some disconnects can be deemed a pain.

No sway bars here. I have tried both ways on and off and all combinations. No difference.

dude..... i have driven barless for almost two years and other than some minor sea sickness its just fine...lol just kiddin about the sea sickness, anyways just ensure that you are properly sprung and run high quality shocks and you won't notice a hugh difference.

Ian,

With your high quality OME parts, you can safely ditch the rear sway bar with no adverse effects.

If it worries you, you can always put it back on but you won't notice the difference.

'96 D1 w/OME & no rear sway bar.

I pulled both front and back bars off and noticed a little more body lean but not bad enough to justify crawling back under to replace them. Just hope I never get in a wreck and have the truck roll over (try explaining that to the insurance co.) On the plus side, the back bar won't bind up anymore when the axle flexes.

gents

thanks for the tips. will try removing the rear bar first and give that a go. if she a goer, might try the fronts later. I do a fair bit of mud pluggin and some of the ruts you cant see really get the axles flexing. once again thanks.

OME HD springs all around. OME N44 and N115 shocks(If I remember correctly).

Rear sway bar has been disconnected for the last 6 months because of a toasted ball joint.

I'm putting it back on as the experience of heavy breaking on pavement when the road has ruts due to vehicle weight and you're not aligned with the rut can potentially ruin your day as the truck really wants to track the rut. IMO its a safety issue. Get disconnects.
