I dropped my pan ... planning to change the oil pickup screen. I called landrover and they sold me a replacement screen for my 97 Disco 1 .... I drove 400kms to pick it up. The screen I got is about 4 inches in diameter I dropped the pan and when I saw the oil pick up I was immediately confused. First the oil pickup and screen are one unit ... and the screen is about have the size of the replacement screen they sold me. I have attached the pics .... What am I missing which screen is the right one. I have a 97 Disco1 with a 4litre motor ... is this the screen for a 3.9litre or the 4.6 litre.... landrover insists this is the right part... doesn't look right to me. |

Call or email Rovers North in Vermont and get a cross check and a quote from them. You could probably email your pic to them as well. They ship internationally. Your pic looks like a smaller pickup than my 3.9l by the way. You might want to just get a new tube. Don't forget the little gasket that fits between the tube flange and the block. |

Whoa......... Why the heck are you wanting to change the thing??? If it has oil-crud baked onto it, use a solvent to clean the screen off..... On a 4.0, the screen is inside of the oil pickup tube, in the part that kinda looks like a flying saucer on the end of a tube. It isn't changable. You would have to replace the whole pickup. -L

I planned to clean it but decided to by a replacement screen just in case to reduce downtime... I figured I could return it if i didn't need it.

It almost looks like what they sent you might be an additional screen that might snap onto the outside housing.... If so, might as well add it on. Might cause oil starvation if you don't change your oil frequently enough to keep it clean, but, it may help keep junk from being sucked up into the engine's workings too... -L
