Ron- That latte would sure get cold fast in a rag-top, no? :)

I had a jeep and two fords, all have left me on the road (or in the mud). Not my Disco, though. And the price of a jeep? They must be getting pretty proud of them for what you are getting. I think chicks look good in them. Hey, maybe jeeps are girlie vehicles? ;-)

So what's so wrong with the Grand Cherokee? Is it some sort of image thing to you guys? Why does eveyone bicker about why their discos kick ass over anything else out there? So all the former GC owners out there that now have Discos - can you outline what makes it a superior vehicle?

Go to the General section and read the thread Jeep Vs Rover. And by the way, post your name. Otherwise you run the risk of being called ball-less.

mateu,

Is that pic shot at the overlook on Metal Masher? It is either that or Amasa Back, but I am guessing MM. Anyway, not to stand behind the diphole Jeep, but that is not too hard of a trail. Great pic though.

Jeeps are formidable vehicles. To deny that would be a lie. For the money they are pretty good on the trail right out of the box. Of course I would rather be in a Disco! The dirvetrain is much better built in LR's (esp half shafts & axles). Beyond that it is just four contact patches, ground clearance, and approach and departure angles. One could argue that the suspension is better in the LR, but who keeps that stock anyway.

Have fun with the flame war here, but I'll be spilling my Lattes in a Rover...cuz I want to.

tell me this.....why is it that any RockFest Challenge at Moab, Rubicon...etc.....you see 99% Jeeps, modified jeeps, landcruisers, and very little landrover vehicles.....and tell me why is that " 4 wheel drive Sport and Utility magazines " rarely feature landrovers....and I KNOW YOU GUYS BUY THOSE MAGAZINES!!!! although you may not admit it....

JEEPS are better for off - road...Landrovers are better for Highway without a doubt with SOME off -road ability!!!!!

Hmm

I don't see too many jeeps in my Engilish magaiznes.. why do think that is?

Jeeps and Rovers can both be modified to wheel quite well. Stock, both can handle more terrain than just about any other stock truck currently sold to the public.

If you think Jeeps are better off-road, then that's great for you. Many people here think that LRs are better off-road and that's great for them. In the big picture, its really of little consequence. With time and money, either one will go anywhere you care to take it if you're sane.

After reading the past few discussions regarding 4x4s...i think the food chain goes something like this:

1. Samurai
2. Jeep (all types, including Peter's stretch)
3. Xterra
4. Defender
5. Disco

Damn. Disco's a real POS. It came in 5th out of 5. This board's for losers.

Hey anyone know where I can get some Chrome bumpers and a set of body panels made entirely out of diamond plate? I think I'm going to get rid of the heavier chassis on my landy, and then replace the aluminum body with something that rusts a whole lot faster...hmmm...or maybe just cover it in diamond plate...yeah. diamond plate.

I almost bought a jeep once. Then I drove it. I waited two more years to get a Rover. Go figure.

Still wish I had that '68 Jeepster Commando with the western snowplow and ooze my way back up the foodchain.

Hey, anybody ever try to fit a plow on a Disco???

That jeepster was great, but even with no lift it kept on chewing up front u joints.
Too bad we had to sell it after it collapsed on the neighbor's dog.

Some guy in a bar offered $450 for it and we made him buy the round and a 24 pack to go. He followed us home down the blacktop and hooked up the plow, ain't seen it since, THANK GOD!!! that thing was a heap.

Rovers Rule, jeepsters plow snow.

This stuff is funny as hell :)

We have millions of enviro-wackos out there trying to get us off the trails, yet we fight about whose Johnson is longest.

I love dirt. Give it to me by Rover, Jeep, bike, ATV, or in my dinner. Makes me no difference. Someone wants to waste thier time laughing at my Rover? It is thier problem...I'm getting dirty any way I can :)

Hey Jeep
Why would you want all of us Latte drinking, Grey Poupon Eating, Armani wearing Yuppies driving Jeeps. We would give your manly Jeep a bad name. I Personally will not do that to you I have way to much respect for you. I will promise you this. If the day comes that I drink cheap beer, use regular mustard, wear Wrangler jeans, and want to have sex with my sister or mother I will go out and buy a Jeep. Until then I will cruise the malls looking for a Starbucks.
But thank you so much for your Free advice. There should be more of you out there to help us LOOSERS.

"My Land Rover has the Willys!!"
Careful Niall, remember who inspired who...

And by the way, I have O'Niells in my family history, from County Tyrone and others in Ireland. The first O'Niell was simply called Niall, and was credited with settling Ireland in around 4 or 500 AD. According to legend, the first man on the boat to touch land could claim it. When they got close to land, Niall cut off his hand and threw it on the shore. Hence the "bloody hand of Ulster" that the IRA used to use as a symbol and is on several coat of arms.
Anyway, cool name.

Sorry this was a bit off-topic. I get tired of these Jeep vs. LR threads so I thought I'd mix it up a bit.
