Has anyone had any difficulty with the dealerships after putting in a K&N oil filter, especially with the longer kind advertised on expeditionexchange.com. I didn't know if they would void the warranty by putting in a non-genuine land rover part.

Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Under the Act the dealer has to show that the modification caused the damage. That's the short version if you need more information, please read the act.

I have had the LR dealer install a K&N oil filter when doing an LOF. They actually take $15 off the price of their oil change! Not bad for a $10 filter. My Rangie is out of warranty BTW.

The price of the LR filter is $15.

Don't do it! I had the K&N and I liked it. But oil from the K&N air filter collects on the MAF sensor and eventually burned it out. It's a $245.00 part (or so it used to be). I doubt that your warranty will cover the MAF is you have a K&N.

Just my $.02.

Gee I want to see an MAF sensor that was fouled by using a K&N OIL filter.

Me too? How in the heck can that happen and if I was a warranty company, I would deny any claim that caused a MAF to burn out with the use of a K&N oil filter.
On the MAF, I have had one for almost 4 years now so I guess the secret is not to SOAK the filter, but that was common sense to me anyway, maybe not for others.
Wide-open on that one Mike, could not resist.

I have a K&N in my 95 - the hot wire MAF is stuffed but because of a back fire on LPG I think. Can anyone tell me whether not oiling the K&N makes a big reduction in filtering ability, because mine is coming up for cleaning.

Cheers

Scott:
The oil is a critical component of the filter's operation. Not oiling would significantly reduce the effectiveness of the filter.

As for life of Mass Airflow Sensors when K&N air filters have been used, I can only offer my own experience. When I bought my truck, it had one that had been installed previously. I bought my truck with 103K on it... I now have in excess of 172K. So far, the MAF sensor has outlasted the vast majority of other vehicles I have owned previously! I can remember when 69K miles on a vehicle was considered a lot.

Peace,
Paul
